To make a sgraffito plate you must use white clay and mold it on a wooden plate mold. When the clay dries a bit then you can take the plate off gently. You can then indent your design that you have measured on the plate. Then you paint the whole plate with the black underglaze paint. Now you can scratch away the indented marks to reveal a contrasting white color. I decided to add a colored rim using underglaze to add a pop of color. A successful sgraffito shows a well contrasted design and a neat finsh as well as even layers of the underglaze.
I choose this image because I wanted to show a representation of a mandala flower because they can look complex and classy at the same time as well as really pretty.
